Taylor Wimpey gets ready to bring new homes and investment to Keynsham
Leading local homebuilder Taylor Wimpey Bristol is set to deliver new high-quality homes and investment to Keynsham, on the former Cadbury’s factory site at Somerdale.
Taylor Wimpey this week received planning permission for a 220-acre mixed use sustainable development – including up to 700 new homes, employment space plus a local centre, a new sports and social club with sports facilities and a new primary school.
Work is already under way with the demolition of one of the existing factory blocks known locally as Block D. These works will pave the way for the construction and early delivery of the Fry Club, the development’s new sports and social facility.

The plans for Taylor Wimpey’s development at Somerdale include up to 700 high-quality new homes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom detached houses.
The residents of the new homes will be able to enjoy a new range of community facilities as part of the development proposals.
The iconic Fry Club, which has long been an integral part of the community, will be rebuilt to include new changing rooms, five flexible function rooms, a large sports bar with a skittle alley and a multi-activity room for community groups.
A new FA-standard floodlit football pitch and two new cricket pitches will be provided in addition to 13 full-size and two junior football pitches, two existing cricket pitches and a nine-hole golf course which are being retained.
A local centre is also included in the masterplan for the site, including a small number of retail units, a medical centre, a riverside cafe and a care home, as well as a new 210-place nursery and a primary school.
The proposals also include creating a new riverside walk with a new cycle/pedestrian bridge over the River Avon, while substantial areas of public open space, including a wetland area for wildlife, are to be created.
Some existing factory buildings will be used to create 10,000 sq m of employment space, which will attract high-profile companies to the area.
Somerdale enjoys a convenient location on the northern edge of Keynsham, surrounded by the beautiful Somerset countryside, yet with all of the shops and facilities of the town centre within easy reach.
Commuters will appreciate that Keynsham has its own railway station with direct services to Bristol, Southampton and London Waterloo, while Bristol city centre lies only six miles from home. The development is well located for access to the A4, the M32 and the M4.
