Families living in brand new homes in the North East are enjoying savings of up to £800 per year in lower energy bills, according to local housebuilder David Wilson Homes.

The company has calculated that its new homes are up to 50% more efficient compared to similar Victorian properties. The average energy bill is around £800 on a brand new three-bedroom home, compared to more than £1,600 for a similar Victorian home, even with modern day improvements.

The cut in energy bills is coming from energy-efficient central heating, double glazing and high levels of insulation – together with top quality build techniques.

“A new home today is better by design and our customers have come to expect generous accommodation,” said Fenton Hewitt, Sales Director at David Wilson North East.

“However, we now combine this with the new build techniques and new technology to slash energy bills. You could save hundreds of pounds on fuel bills compared with older homes and also live a greener lifestyle with lower carbon dioxide emissions.”

The improved performance has been made possible by:

Better energy-efficient boilers – the latest technology to provide heating and hot water

Higher performance double glazing – which is now better than even ten years ago

More insulation – floors, walls and lofts are highly insulated to minimise heat loss

Peace of mind – the exclusive David Wilson five-year warranty covers fixtures and fittings, in addition to the NHBC ten-year structural warranty

At its Elba Park development, near Houghton-le-Spring, all homes are built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes – some of the first in the region to achieve this – and include an array of energy-saving measures and renewable / low carbon technologies.

They have been designed specifically for the location and feature free-flowing interior layouts, which maximise space and natural light, and top-quality specifications.

The development is taking shape next to a new country park and is growing into a thriving community with more than 60 homes now occupied. It is in a convenient location within easy reach of Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, with good local schools and amenities close by.

There are three, four and five-bedroom homes priced from £189,995 and David Wilson has a range of helpful purchase schemes available, including Help to Buy and part exchange.
