With all the talk of Michael Gove looking to charge parents for taking children out of school during term time, it’s time to take action to avoid the peak holiday prices and opt for a different holiday destination this summer. The most reasonable overseas holidays are surely in the Alps, where prices plummet during the summer season to offer affordable family fun.

Activities: From mountain biking and hiking to thrill seeking watersports, picturesque golf courses and top class spa facilities. VIP SKI has luxury chalets available from 1st June to 31st August in Les Gets, Morzine, and Alpe d’Huez in the heart of the French Alps, offering luxurious and comfortable accommodation. All three resorts are easily accessible by car, train or plane with short transfer times from airports and major cities. With no minimum number of nights stay, these chalet’s can be visited for a long weekend, a week’s holiday or as part of a larger adventure.

This year VIP SKI has a new addition to the summer Chalet line up in Morzine, in the form of the centrally located, Chalet Kaila. Freshly opened in December, this chalet was created to be enjoyed; kitted out with flat screen TV’s, its own sauna and balcony hot tub, the smart contemporary living space boasts panoramic views of surrounding summits. With 4 ensuite rooms and one connecting bunkroom, it is ideal for groups or families to enjoy each other’s company in a relaxing environment. Prices start from £105 per room per night on self- catering. For a week’s sole use of the Chalet on a half board basis prices start from £440 per person based on 10 sharing.

Morzine and Les Gets share much of the same facilities during the summer months as part of the Port du Soleil. A particular highlight, exclusive to the area, is the wonderfully named Fantasticable. Located in Chatel, this zip wire covers over three kilometres and reaches speeds of up to 100km/h, flying challengers across the Valley. Morzine’s excellent mountain biking offers bike parks with airbags, numerous downhill trails and 650km of marked trails, served by 24 lifts. The Adventure Park hidden among the trees has circuits created with ropes, swings, and tunnels to amuse both children and adults. For a thrill seeking experience, canyoning will see challenger’s abseiling, jumping and plunging down natural water slides into mountain streams. To explore further afield, Lake Geneva and its beaches are just 30 minutes away and even venturing into Italy is little more than 90 minutes away.

In Les Gets, the VIP SKI Altitude Lodge is a much larger property, sleeping 18 – 29 guests, the urban interior offers sociable living spaces and comes complete with a wet suite comprising of a sauna, massage room and outdoor hot tub. There are 9 en-suite rooms, including 5 family rooms, 3 private hot tubs and a penthouse level, creating private living areas. Prices start from £65 per person per night, based on two people sharing on a half board basis. Guests in bunk beds pay half prices, ideal for families. The Lodge is also just a short walk from the lush green fairways of Les Gets, golf course with views across to Mont Blanc.

Alpe d’Huez is a hub of action during the summer, sitting at the high altitude of 2000m it is known for the sunshine, and just 2 hours from Lyon, it is a very accessible destination. Try the ‘Summer Sledging’ here, just as it sounds it involves sledging down the luge run – minus the snow. The many hidden lakes here make it an excellent place for a spot of fishing, there is even a lake, Lac de Bergers, designated for children’s fishing. VIP SKI has 5 summer chalets here, all built around a cobbled courtyard, sleeping 2-15 guests comfortably. Chalet La Maison has VIP SKI’s running theme of classic mountain chic décor with a luxurious and relaxing feel, it sleeps up to 8 people in 4 en-suite rooms with private balconies. Self catered prices start at £105 per room per night, or £302.50 per person based on 8 sharing for a week’s sole use of the Chalet, breakfast can be added at an additional charge.
