Anyone concerned about unsightly or painful varicose veins are being invited to an open day at a new Bristol clinic which specialises in procedures for venous conditions.

The special open day is being held on Saturday 27 September from 10am-1pm at The Whiteley Clinic in Clifton.

Expert consultants from the clinic will be offering visitors the opportunity to have a complimentary 10 minute one to one session which will include advice and a state-of-the-art scan used to detect underlying causes of varicose veins.

Mr Mike Rocker, consultant at The Whiteley Clinic said: “Having opened the new Bristol clinic in April we’re really excited to be offering advice to anyone in the area who may be concerned about any kind of vein condition.

“We specialise in varicose vein treatment and we’re really keen to educate people on the help there is available for this and other associated conditions.

“Varicose veins can be very nasty and cause throbbing, swelling and itching in many cases. Complications from varicose veins can also lead to leg ulcers which are extremely unpleasant for patients.

“We also want to make people aware that superficial thread veins can turn into something much more uncomfortable so it’s best to get them looked at as early as possible.

“We’d really encourage anyone who is concerned or anyone who may be genetically predisposed to varicose vein issues to take advantage of this event. So that we can manage the scans and consultations, we are asking that people register their attendance before the 27th.”

The Whiteley Clinic is based at the Litfield House Medical Centre in Clifton and will provide vein expertise to patients from across the South West.

Run by Bristol born vein expert Professor Mark Whiteley, who is a world leader in the treatment of varicose veins, the clinic is the third of its kind in the UK, with other clinics in London and Guildford.

Professor Whiteley was the first consultant surgeon to introduce minimally invasive varicose vein surgery techniques in the United Kingdom. Chief vascular technologist Judy Holdstock, who assisted in the first operation, is among the specialists working in Bristol and will be one of the consultants offering advice at the open day.

There is no charge to attend the event and refreshments will be provided. To register contact nancy[at]thewhiteleyclinic.co.uk and for more information visit thewhiteleyclinic.co.uk
