Neighbours stalwarts Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne who play Karl and Susan Kennedy on Neighbours, one of Australia’s most enduring on-screen couples, this week notch up a staggering 20 years on the daily soap.

In their time on Neighbours, the Ramsay Street matriarchs have married each other three times, raised three children of their own as well as offspring from several other romantic dalliances. They continue to play host to an endless stream of homeless characters who take up residency in the Kennedy house, the latest being Nate Kinski, the nephew of Susan's late husband Alex.

“It is definitely one of the busiest sets on the show with guests, often arriving unannounced, moving in and out. Karl and Susan are incredibly generous and luckily have an enormous wing on the house that we don’t see,” joked Alan.

The formidable duo met on the set of police drama Cop Shop in the late eighties and ironically played brother and sister.

According the Woodburne one of the great myths about Karl and Susan is that they have a healthy physical relationship. “Ironically, I think Karl and Susan have only kissed passionately about three times on the show, yet we’ve managed to create this vibe of a full-on sex life without having to do very much,” joked Jackie.
