Anglia Car Auction’s final classic car sale of 2014 finished off a phenomenal year for the Kings Lynn auction house, with a record-breaking line-up and sale result. With 215 cars on offer, a massive 160 lots found new owners, resulting in a 75 per cent sale rate giving a total of £1.39 million including premium.

The biggest seller of the day was the immaculate 1987 Ferrari Testarossa seeing the hammer down at £67,725 including premium while the 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo was purchased for £50,400 including premium.

However Jaguar seemed the favourite marque of the sale, securing three of top five sales. The 1956 XK140 sold for £63,000 while the aluminium bodied D-Type project car, commissioned by the late Brian Wilkinson of Zealia Engineering, reached £53,550, nearly double its estimated price. A 1969 E-Type 4.2 Series 2 Coupe went for £46,725, all with premium.

There were also some surprising prices for some true traditional classics such as the rare 1958 Sunbeam Rapier Convertible and a superb 1959 Austin A40 Farina Mk1. Expected to reach a maximum of £8,500, the Rapier sold at a whopping £15,540 while the Farina, estimated at between £4,500 to £5,250, s sold for £9,975 including premium after a fierce bidding battle.

Other worthy mentions were the unregistered 1980 MG BGT, with just 117miles on the clock, sold at £9,240, the much sought after 1988 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth at £10,762, and the no reserve 1980 Fiat 131 Sport Abarth Tribute at £11,550, all including premium.

Proprietor Lyn George said: “It’s been a fantastic year for the classic car sales, with unbelievable growth to reach this amazing result. We can’t thank everyone enough for their continued support and custom.”

Anglia Car Auctions showed its customers its appreciation by giving away a classic car worth £5,000 in a free prize draw. Ray Bateman from Cromer was picked out of the 1,700 strong attendees as the new owner of a 1998 Jaguar XJR Supercharged V8.

Classic car enthusiast and collector Ray used to attend the auction with his disabled wife but as her disability has worsened, he doesn’t attend as regularly. By chance, his wife had a carer with her on Saturday, allowing Ray to attend…and he was glad he did.

Ray said: “I’m completely overwhelmed. I read about the raffle and was handed a ticket when I arrived but you think yeah right, of course I’m going to win. When they called my number I couldn’t believe it. The car is gorgeous and I’ll be pinching myself the rest of the weekend.”

The XJR had two prior owners, the second since 1999, and has 66,000 miles on the clock along with its service history and a brand new MOT. Its a high spec model with Celtic alloys, factory sunroof and stereo upgrade.

Anglia Car Auctions’ first classic sale of 2015 takes place on Saturday 31st January. Entries are now being accepted. The full results can be viewed at angliacarauctions.co.uk.
