There is a certain stereotype when it comes to gaming, and that is that it is a male pastime. We are also led to believe that these players hide in their parent’s basement and are unhygienic. The fact is though that this view of the “gamer” is out of date, and in truth over half of gamers are now female.

While this can be controversial to some, it is actually a more positive thing. The gaming community is evolving, but it also a beast that in many ways is untamed. This is why there is a lot of negativity at times, but hopefully times are changing and this can be improved on.

The fact is, the games industry is fast growing and there are many styles of games. For people who like first-person shooters there are plenty of options out there, the most popular being Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Destiny and CS: GO. While some would assume these games are more for the male gamer, just look at Twitch if you want to see evidence of the female FPS player. They are out there, and they play well.

On the other side of the spectrum there is the more casual style of games such as bingo games that are also popular. They tend to let you flex your brain muscles or their luck with casino style games. While this is true, there are also male players who enjoy these games, not everybody is aggressive. The fact is the gamer, whether they are male or female have their own tastes.

When looking at the press around gaming, the negative side of gaming can often be seen. While there are issues which do need fixing, it is important to remember that not everything is bad. The debate of what gaming should evolve into is something that still rages on, and it will be interesting to see where it ends. One thing we can be sure of though; the female gamer will be a welcome part of it.
