Wearable technology is being used to enhance many aspects of people’s everyday lives, but perhaps the most successful application so far has been as a fitness aid.

Keeping fit and staying healthy are keen interests of people of the modern world, and technology has advanced to assist with this pursuit. Wearable tech is not only great as a fashion accessory; it is also making fitness fanatics’ lives much easier when it comes to tracking performance.

Wearable smart watches, such as the Fitbit, are hugely common amongst gym goers now. The latest offering from the most commonly known fitness tracking company is the Fitbit Surge. This is being marketed as a fitness super watch. It has built in GPS to measure distance, pace, and time, and it also monitors heart rate and calorie burn. It then wirelessly syncs the user’s stats with their smartphone or tablet, giving users information as they go. This helps them to reach their targets and surpass them.

Fitbit blaze is another item that is revolutionising how we track fitness. The watch is working all the time, and even tracks the user’s sleep patterns. By doing this it can determine when is the optimum time to wake the wearer.  It has multi-sport modes so that it can track running, walking, or cycling performance. It also has a touch screen, and the user can explore different workouts designed by the developers. It keeps users focused with activity stats at a quick glance, and smart notifications of appointments as well.

These items are helping people to maximise their workout sessions, but also to achieve goals throughout their normal day, such as breaking a record for the amount of steps they have taken. Fitness trackers like these have become an essential item in sport now as well.

Leicester City football team are a prime example of a sports team that made excellent use of fitness tracking wearables last season. They started the season as rank outsiders in the football betting, but went on to lift the Premier League title after a tremendous run of form.

Part of their success was down to the use of the newest and best technology available. All the players wore fitness trackers during training that monitored their heart rate and other fitness stats, along with their positioning and work rate. This allowed the management staff to produce detailed sets of data which they could then analyse and use to help develop training and match day strategies.

The technology gave information about which players were best in which position, and also when players needed a rest and should be rotated. As a result of this, the Foxes were one of the teams with the fewest injuries in the league last season.

Many other teams will be following the lead of the reigning Premier League champions and using wearable tech to enhance team performance.

Right now, there is no better way to track fitness levels and performance than with wearable tech.
