Podium joy for Columb at Blaxhall

30th June 2009 Print
Relentless Suzuki MX rider Scott Columb, stormed to a great third place overall at the weekend, as the New Zealander competed in the fourth round of the MMX British Open Championship, held at the Blaxhall track in Suffolk.

With perfect track conditions, race one would see Columb take the holeshot, continuing his lead, until an error midway through the race pushed him back, eventually crossing the line in fourth. With a suspension set-up change for race two, Columb would claim a place higher in third on his RM-Z450, taking third overall on the day.

Joining Columb in the open class was Jamie Law. Slowed by a first corner crash in race one, Law pushed his way back through the pack to finish in ninth, whilst riding well from mid pack in race two to finally finish in seventh, taking seventh overall on the day.

Sadly for teammate Martin Barr the day would end sooner than expected. Setting the fastest time in qualifying, a tangle in a first corner crash in race one, left the Irishman trapped under his own bike. Unfortunately with an injured leg, it would make it impossible for him to continue.

Team manager Rob Hooper commented, “I am bitterly disappointed for Martin. He was by far the fastest man on the track and we were looking forward to some really good results again before the unfortunate crash. However, Scott and Jamie again rode very well again and we're all encouraged by their improving speed and general progress at the moment.”
