DAF Trucks at the CV Show: a truck for everyone

27th February 2008 Print
DAF Trucks at the CV Show: a truck for everyone DAF Trucks is using CV Show 2008, which opens at Birmingham’s NEC on 15 April, to promote its position as UK market leader in every segment in which it competes. Its stand – No 510 in Hall 20 – will have a range of environmentally friendly trucks from 7.5 to 44 tonnes GCW. All of its five exhibits are to full Euro 5 specification (not legally required until October 2009), feature AS-tronic automated transmission and two of them are shown with even greener EEV engine technology.

“The CV Show is all about choice. Truck operators are easily able to compare all of the competitive models so our theme is very much that, whatever their needs, DAF has the right model with the best specification and the lowest emissions”, says Tony Pain, DAF Trucks Marketing Director. “We’re consolidating our sustained market leading position with an array of advanced vehicles while we invest heavily in the production and assembly facilities needed to make even more of them”, he said.

The full line up is:

DAF LF 45.160 (4x2 rigid)
This day-cabbed model features the latest 160 hp FR118 engine to Euro 5 specification, which also meets EEV (standing for Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) emission standards originally devised for gas fuelled engines. This technology reduces smoke and harmful particulate matter to almost half that of Euro 5 levels. DAF describes EEV as a kind of ‘Euro 5 and a half’ in terms of cleanliness which the LF on Show achieves without the use of a particulate trap.

DAF CF 65.250 (4x2 rigid)
Another day-cabbed model, this truck’s main interest is that it features the largest body yet produced on-line by DAF’s UK assembly partner Leyland Trucks. The in-house bodying option DAF introduced during 2007 has proved immensely popular and now a complete range of box van and curtain side bodies mounted on the DAF LF 45 and 55 and CF 65 rigid chassis from 7.5 to 18 tonnes is available. The particular exhibit also features an extra large 70 litre AdBlue tank allowing around 6 weeks of operation between top ups.

DAF FAD CF 85.410 (8x4rigid)
The ultimate green construction vehicle, this day-cabbed 8 x 4 tipper chassis achieves the tough EEV emissions performance through DAF’s advanced engine technology combined with a passive soot filter which together achieve a 50% reduction in particulate emissions even compared to Euro 5, making it cleaner than some similar sized CNG powered engines. This environmentally friendly model would be particularly at home on construction sites within the new London LEZ (Low Emissions Zone) and drivers will welcome the specially-developed software which ensures the AS-tronic automated transmission delivers even better on/off road traction.

DAF FTR CF 85.460 (6x2 tractor)
Fitted with DAF’s latest version of its Space Cab, featuring sky lights, aluminium finish dash and a host of detailed enhancements such as a pocket sprung mattress and refrigerator, this 6 by 2 tag axle tractor with lifting rear axle is targeted at specialist applications such as forestry work and milk tanker use where exceptional traction and manoeuvrability are so important. At 7595 kgs unladen weight this model also offers a very competitive payload.

DAF FT XF 105.510 (4x2 tractor)
The total top-of-the-range flagship with 510 horsepower on tap, this model has the market-leading Super Space Cab with all the options to keep a driver happy. More importantly, it comes equipped with a range of options to keep him or her and other road users safe – including VSC (Vehicle Stability control), MX engine brake, an intarder and lane departure warning system, together with axle load monitoring, 1280litre fuel tank capacity and alloy wheels.

The DAF stand will also feature a special display featuring its new-developed Telematics offering.

In addition to this Stand line up, DAF will be displaying a further range of high technology vehicles in its traditional outside Show area linked to catering pavilion. Details of these will be available nearer to the Show.
