British women would spend their last £10 on lipstick

9th December 2008 Print
55% of British women would purchase a lipstick with their last £10 ahead of mascara – suggesting that this kind of purchases offers a confidence and self esteem boost for relatively little expense; a cheap shopping fix and providing a much needed perk particularly in the midst of hard economic times.

“As the country tightens its belt we are certainly seeing a shift in our customer’s spending habits. Brands such as 2True and BeautyUK are perfectly placed to offer customers the latest colours at a bargain basement price,” comments Jeff Wemyss, Superdrug Trading Director. "When the credit crunch bites, we believe that our customers will continue to want to treat themselves but are more likely to buy a new lipstick for £1.95, than splash out £500 on the latest It Bag.”

In testimony Clothes Show Live – the world’s largest fashion and beauty event - has increased floor space in the Pink Zone, a place for women to pamper themselves with the latest make-up and beauty products, by 20% to meet consumer demand for 2008.
