Medieval views with modern comforts Smiths Gore’s Berwick Office are marketing The Rowans, a three-bedroom bungalow situated in a peaceful village setting in Ancroft, six miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed (Northumberland) and benefiting from the modern comforts of oil central heating, uPVC double glazing and well-appointed kitchen and bathroom suites.

Externally, the cottage has a delightful rear garden, laid principally to lawn with flowering and shrub borders. The property has several mature and semi-mature trees, including the rowans from which the property takes its name, together with a detached stone built garage/workshop and large shed. The focal point of the garden is a delightful dovecot complete with inhabitants!

Ancroft is a charming village with an interesting history, having been lain waste to by the Scots in the fourteenth century. The only surviving building is its Anglican church, the church of St. Anne's, fortified in the thirteenth century with a large tower at one end, giving it the appearance of a castle. More recently, it appears that Queen Anne’s army housed their bootmakers in Ancroft in the early eighteenth century. The Rowans overlooks the site of the medieval village, known as Cobblers Field, where earthworks are still visible today.

Barbara Pentecost, selling agent at Smiths Gore’s Berwick Office says:

“The Rowans is a truly delightful property, set in a rural location yet only ten minutes from Berwick-upon-Tweed with its mainline railway station giving connection to Edinburgh, Newcastle and London.”

The Rowans is marketed with a Guide Price of £250,000.
