First time buyer listens to some sisterly advice

First time buyer listens to some sisterly advice A first time buyer has taken a bit of sisterly advice and bought one of the Redrow’s multi-award winning Debut range. Jamie Moffatt, whose sister Rachael Davies is conveniently an area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), has just snapped up a stylish home at the housebuilder’s Dol Gorwel development in North Cornelly.

Debut properties are designed specifically for those who want their first step on the property ladder to be a quality new build home.

Delighted Jamie, a finance coordinator for a secured lending company, purchased his one-bedroom apartment for just £60,000 and is due to move in when the development in complete next year.

The 23-year-old from Cardiff said: “The price is obviously the major factor in choosing the property but it’s also got the added benefits of being in a nice environment, surrounded by other new build properties and not on a run-down estate.

“The whole area is looked after and maintained so it will be a really nice place to live. By the time I move in next year house prices will have gone up again so it’s great that I bought it when I did and got it for such a good price. And I won’t have to worry about the cost of maintenance, which comes with owning an older property.”

Rachael Davies said: “Debut is definitely a winning formula for people like Jamie who otherwise could not afford to get onto the property ladder - and certainly not with a brand new home and all the benefits that brings.

“We’re building 89 one and two-bedroom Debut homes at Dôl Gorwel and even the largest two-storey property with two double bedrooms is priced below the £125,000 stamp duty threshold.”

The opportunity to defer payment of 10% of the initial purchase price for up to 10 years as an interest-free sum and a single monthly service charge that covers gas, water and electricity bills as well as external maintenance, have all proved to be winners with cash-strapped first time buyers

Rachael added: “The monthly service charge will make it easy for them to budget for household bills – and even includes the window cleaning. It is home ownership made simple, as well as affordable.”

Debut offers stylish, contemporary designs and the properties are built to high quality standards, with sustainability and energy efficiency a key factor. Much of the cost-saving comes from the use of lightweight structural steel frame and other modern methods of construction, which speed up the build programme without compromising on quality.

Communal heating and hot water systems also bring cost savings, whilst replacing private gardens with contemporary shared outdoor space – looked after by Redrow’s own management company - means homes take up less land than conventional homes, whilst inspiring a sense of community.
