Dartmoor and Exmoor host Low Carbon Festival

Visitors and residents alike will have the ultimate excuse to visit Exmoor and Dartmoor this October as the South West’s National Parks host the very first Dartmoor & Exmoor Low Carbon Festival from 9-12th October.

The UK’s National Parks are leading the way in helping the country make the transition from oil dependency to a low carbon future through harnessing land-based resources. The Festival events will show people how to make their own contribution while, of course, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the region’s two ‘breathing spaces’.

One of the most unique attractions is currently growing on the moor, but it’s not of the four legged beast kind. One of the UK’s only two storey straw bale house stands on the roof of Exmoor and far from a tourist attraction, it is considered the future of low carbon construction.

Dartmoor will be the setting for numerous events for all ages and interests including the Green Street Fair in the picturesque town of Bovey Tracey. Ramblers will enjoy the diverse selection of moor walks and for those who love the freedom of two wheels, family friendly cycle routes to die for, weaving through stunning moorland scenery, will be a definite hit.

More than 15 events are already running as part of the Festival for anyone wanting to enjoy a low carbon holiday this Autumn. The majority are free entry and full details are available at lowcarbonfestival.co.uk.
