H&H to auction ex-works Healey Silverstone

27th July 2006 Print
H&H to auction ex-works Healey Silverstone JAC 100 began life in 1949 as one of five prototype Silverstones (chassis X2) before being transformed into the first production car (chassis D1).

It was driven on the 1949 Alpine Rally by Donald Healey and Ian Appleyard, where the Silverstone won its class, finished second overall and was the first British car home. In August of the same year, it was one of three works Silverstones entered for the International Trophy meeting at the circuit that inspired its name. It finished fifth in class with Tommy Wisdom at the wheel and in doing so secured the team prize for Healey.

It was then retired from its works competition duties and turned into a press demonstrator, thereby featuring in the Autocar, Motor and Motor Sport magazines of the time and the Daily Mail. Roy Salvadori then briefly owned JAC 100 before it was sold to N H Yates who subsequently raced it at Goodwood on a number of occasions.

Without doubt one of the most important of the mere 105 Healey Silverstones produced, JAC 100 is said to be in very good overall condition and is estimated to fetch £80,000-90,000.
