Citroen Nemo proves itself UK’s most economical van

2nd October 2009 Print
Citroen Nemo 75.8 mpg - that’s the incredible fuel consumption returned by a Citroen Nemo SensoDrive 1.4HDi van in the independent ALD Automotive/Total Excellium MPG Marathon organised by Fleet World magazine.

Driven by John Kendall - with co-driver Dr. Paul Nieuwenhuis - the Citroen Nemo beat all other LCV’s that took part in the demanding 358.5 mile event earlier this week. For the second year in succession, the Citroen Nemo overcame strong competition to take the title of ‘Britain’s Most Economical Van’ in this arduous test.

According to John Kendall, “The Nemo returned 75.8mpg over a particularly tough route, which included many miles in the hills of the Welsh borders. As well as ensuring that the Nemo delivered optimum economy, we had to maintain a respectably high 30mph average speed to avoid penalties. The Nemo’s quick-shifting SensoDrive automated manual gearbox meant we could guarantee the right gear every time to keep both economy and timings under tight control.”

Robert Handyside, Citroen UK’s commercial vehicle operations manager, said, “Once again Citroen vans have proven that the use of advanced technology delivers real-world operator benefits in terms of exceptional 75.8mpg fuel economy. Citroen’s outstanding fuel consumption figures are particularly relevant when all fleet operators are experiencing harsher economic conditions.”

The Nemo high-cube range starts from just £8,895 + VAT, and offers an unrivalled combination of low operating costs, high (610kg) payload and a practical and spacious 2.5cu.m load compartment. At a modest £400, the SensoDrive gearbox adds automatic shifting for less than half the price of a conventional automatic - and as the MPG Marathon proves, outstanding economy comes as standard!
