Citroen has just signed a major vehicle supply agreement with the Glasgow-headquartered Allied Vehicles Group.  This will see Allied Vehicles convert several hundred Dispatch Combi models into wheelchair-accessible taxis and people carriers.

These vehicles will be sold through Allied Vehicles Group’s UK-wide direct sales networks.  Promoted under Allied’s Cab Direct brand, the Dispatch-based Citroen EuroTaxi is offered on either L1 or L2 models and is available equipped to full Hackney cab specification.  Compared with conventional, purpose-built taxis, the wheelchair-accessible Citroen EuroTaxi offers significant operational benefits, including greater space for passengers and luggage, together with lower initial and reduced running costs.  The Citroen EuroTaxi is available with seating for the driver and up to seven passengers - and a wide range of options are available.

As a Motability converter partner, Allied Vehicles is also converting the Citroen Dispatch Combi to meet the requirements of large families or small groups, including wheelchair-using passengers.  Promoted under the Allied Mobility brand, the Dispatch-based Citroen Independence offers full wheelchair access and is available in L1 or L2 versions.  As such, it is available to accommodate the driver and up to five seated passengers plus one wheelchair-user, or the driver and up to four seated passengers plus two wheelchair-users.  These vehicles are supplied as standard with a rear fold-out wheelchair access ramp.

Robert Handyside, Citroen’s commercial vehicle operations manager, comments: “We are delighted with this new vehicle supply agreement with the Allied Vehicles Group.  The Dispatch is ideally suited for taxi and Motability conversions, combining competitive first cost, low running costs and generous passenger carrying capability, all in a vehicle with compact overall dimensions.”

Peter Facenna, Allied Vehicles’ sales director, adds: “Meeting specialist vehicle needs is our core business and we are continually looking to enhance our market-leading range of taxis and mobility vehicles.  This new partnership with Citroen will enable us to do just that and we look forward growing sales volumes for these new products over the coming months.”
