Direct Line covering BA travel booked before 14 Dec

16th December 2009 Print

Direct Line has announced that it will offer travel insurance cover to those affected by the BA strikes as long as the travel insurance was purchased prior to 14 December, unlike many insurers who have a cut-off date of 2 November.

A spokesperson for Direct Line travel insurance said: "Customers with policies purchased before 14 December will be covered if their flights are delayed or cancelled by BA, however we advise that they contact BA or their travel agent  first to get full details of the situation before calling their insurer. Because the strike details have not yet been finalised, customers will need to wait for a decision by BA on the status of their flight before they can claim on their travel insurance.  Related costs, such as hotel or car hire cancellation fees, may also be covered, but these will be determined on a case-by-case basis."
