Hotel de Russie celebrates Caravaggio in 2010

Hotel de Russie, the Rocco Forte Collection’s stylish hotel in the heart of Rome, is offering guests the opportunity to visit the cultural event of 2010 celebrating Italian Baroque artist, Caravaggio in Italy.

The Scuderie del Quirinale Museum is marking the 400th anniversary of the death of Caravaggio with an exhibition of the great master’s most important and representative works.   The exhibition will run from February 18 to June 13, 2010.

Drawn from museums and galleries all over the world, the paintings include the Bacchus from the Uffizi, David with Goliath’s Head from the Galleria Borghese, the Musicians from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and The Supper at Emmaus from the National Gallery in London. The paintings will be accompanied by in-depth commentaries which place them in historical context, and chronicle Caravaggio’s complex artistic development and revolutionary approach to naturalism.

The 18th-century Scuderie del Quirinale – the former papal stables directly opposite the main entrance of the Palazzo del Quirinale – was remodelled in the late 1990s by architect Gae Aulenti and reopened 10 years ago as a venue for exciting, temporary exhibitions. It sits on the highest of Rome’s seven hills and has stunning views over the city.
