Mercedes-Benz Trucks invests in Alsace

21st June 2010 Print

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is establishing a development center for special trucks at its site in Molsheim, France. An additional 42 jobs will be created at Mercedes-Benz Molsheim over the next six months as a result of the new center and the increased demand for custom tailored trucks.

The cornerstone for the consistent positioning of this product strategy was laid ten years ago with the establishment of Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) at the Alsatian site. CTT is the central point of contact for special orders from customers for modified and specially equipped Mercedes-Benz trucks. The demand for custom equipped trucks from the brand with the star has continued unabated for ten years because the demands on commercial vehicles are becoming continuously more stringent and increasingly specific to the diverse areas of application.

“I am pleased that we can celebrate the tenth anniversary of the CTT unit this year. Here at Molsheim, we offer each customer a custom solution for meeting their specific demands. ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’ is our motto,” says Yaris Pürsün, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Wörth plant and Head of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, when describing the aspiration of Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks.

Demand for custom solutions in the truck segment is rising continuously, according to Walter Eisele, Head of Production and Engineering at Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks and Director of the Molsheim plant. “In 2009, CTT arranged the modification or upgrading of 20 percent of all trucks assembled in Wörth. Because the demand for custom solutions will continue to grow in the future, we have invested a total of eight million euros in expanding capacity and in our new development center over the last two years in order to be able to best satisfy our customers’ wishes in a timely manner. This has resulted in the creation of a total of 42 new jobs in Molsheim.”

Sous-Prefect Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren is pleased with the development of the plant in Molsheim.“The investment by Mercedes-Benz in Alsace is a positive sign in these economically difficult times. As a representative of the State, I am pleased that the Daimler Group chose the Molsheim site, thus confirming its commitment to and confidence in the men and women of this region. The creation of 42 highly qualified jobs is a positive contribution to the Alsatian labor market, and the authorities will work to support the development of Mercedes-Benz Molsheim.”

In contrast to the shrinking worldwide truck business, CTT added another chapter to its success story despite the difficult economy in 2009. CTT arranged the modification of nearly 9,000 Mercedes-Benz trucks produced in Wörth to meet diverse customer requirements.

Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks belongs to the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks business unit, which formerly did business as the Special Vehicles product area and was founded as part of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks business unit in 2000. As the central point of contact for the sales organization, which accepts requests from customers around the globe, CTT represents a further step toward custom tailored commercial vehicles. CTT organizes the vehicle modification work with a production network made up of skilled internal and external partners. CTT modifies the entire range of Mercedes-Benz models, from the Actros and the Econic to the Zetros, as requested by the customer.

Mercedes-Benz Molsheim, the French MB Trucks site, is the largest production facility in the CTT network with roughly 500 employees, and it is also the headquarters of the CTT unit established in 2000. The site itself was established in 1967 and thus has long years of experience in the production of special vehicles.

Highly qualified, bilingual employees are currently being sought for the new positions in development, production, and sales, with a focus on design engineers. The exact job descriptions can be found at career.daimler.com. Applications can be submitted online or by e-mail to molsheim[at]daimler.com.
