Tucked away behind the mystical walls of the medina and just a stroll from the famous Djemaa el Fna square, is the latest addition to the Angsana Riads Collection.

Riad Dar Zaouia officially opens on 1 January 2011 and means ‘a place of retreat’ in Arabic. It is designed for those seeking intimate, romantic surroundings in a quiet place of refined, relaxed elegance.

The Riad has six deluxe bedrooms and one special suite. Each room is unique and features authentic Moroccan antiques and textiles along with colourful tadelek plasterwork, a Moroccan speciality. On the courtyard level guests can enjoy breakfast which is served each morning featuring freshly baked breads and pastries, fruits from the local market, and Moroccan delights such as dates and honey. Guests can then relax with a coffee in the library, with its beautiful Berber textiles, antiques and cosy fireplace.

After a busy day sightseeing, unwind with a signature Angsana massage in the treatment suite, a light and airy sanctuary offering total privacy and relaxation. Angsana Spa’s award-winning blend of treatments is based on the use of natural ingredients and the therapists are formally trained at Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Thailand.

One of the great pleasures of Riad Dar Zaouia is the delightful rooftop garden and sun terrace, with lyrical views overlooking the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, the ancient city walls of the Medina, and the distant, snow-capped Atlas Mountains. The garden terrace is landscaped with exotic plants, colourful flowers and fruit trees and guests can relax in the cool shade or enjoy sunbathing on chaise lounges.

Just down the cobbled lanes are five sister Angsana Riads whose amenities guests are welcome to experience. For a complete range of Spa and Hammam treatments visit Riad Bab Firdaus, or dine in the romantic candle-lit courtyard at Riad Si Said.

Each of the Angsana Riads provides a host who acts as a personal assistant. They help to create tailor made itineraries, from booking spa appointments, arranging specialist souk shopping, or sightseeing excursions to the desert dunes or Atlas Mountains.

Although each Angsana Riad has its own distinct personality, all reflect the culture and traditions of Morocco, enabling guests to experience life in the Medina as it has always been lived: with style, charm and comfort.

Prices start from £140 (156 Euros) per night for a Deluxe Room at Riad Zaouia on a daily breakfast basis. Prices are based on two sharing and includes all taxes and service charges.
