Lucky Lou set for surpise Christmas gift

One lucky lady from Northamptonshire will get the surprise of her life on Christmas morning – after her romantic husband paid a total of £12,800 for the personalised registration LOU 115E!

While there’s no disguising her Christian name, mystery surrounds her surname and identify, but all will undoubtedly be revealed on December 25.

The mystery man won the personalised registration with an on-line bid during the second day of the DVLA auction being staged at Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire.

Insisting on keeping his anonymity to avoid spoiling his spectacular Christmas surprise, the businessman defended his purchase as not being extravagant, but a “fine investment”.

The most expensive registration sold during the first two days of the three-day sale was 75 M which sold for £49,341, dwarfing GTO 599F which went for a total of £19,911 and the registration BAH 7A – a distinct correlation to the popular Asian surname Bahia –  which sold for £19,026 complete with VAT and buyers’ premium.

Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Events Manager, said: “Louise, whoever she might be, is one lucky lady who will wake up on Christmas morning with a great surprise.”

The auction’s “star” plate will undoubtedly be 11 O which boasts a reserve of £10,000. It is the latest in the O-series steadily released by DVLA Personalised Registrations since January 2009. To date, the sale of 15 registrations from the series has amassed a staggering £1.2 million.
