Va Va Voom is back

Oscar nominated actor Colin Firth has topped the list of men WITH Va Va Voom with 45% according to a new poll.  He is closely followed by licensed to thrill Bond star Daniel Craig (39%), Roger Federer (39%) and Prince Harry (39%) who narrowly beat his elder brother Prince William (38%) and US President Barack Obama (38%).

2,000 Britons were asked by YouGov on behalf of Renault for its latest Clio Va Va Voom ad campaign, who HAS and who HAS NOT got Va Va Voom from a list of 100 high-profile people and UK cities.

Topping the list of those WITHOUT Va Va Voom were Wayne Rooney (71%) and John Prescott (70%), plus Nick Clegg on 66%.  Katie Price also failed to impress, with 65% of people deciding she does NOT have Va Va Voom.

Of the Royals, more than two fifths (43%) of respondents thought Kate Middleton HAS Va Va Voom whilst fellow bride–to–be Zara Phillips secured just under a third (31%).  Grounded at the bottom of the Royal list were the Va Va Voom- less Prince of Wales and the Duke of York – who secured only 8% and 10% respectively.

In politics, the Obamas topped the Va Va Voom league (Michelle Obama with 40%, Barack Obama with 38%) followed by the French President’s wife Carla Bruni 24%,  although her husband Nicolas Sarkozy scored a low 10%. Of UK political figures, London’s Mayor Boris Johnson scored 20%.

At the bottom of the list of UK politicians was Ed Miliband, with only 7% of respondents thinking he HAS Va Va Voom, and in a blow to the coalition, Nick Clegg (10%) and David Cameron (12%) did little better. Both were beaten by former MP and Strictly Come Dancing star Ann Widdecombe, with 13% of those polled saying she HAS Va Va Voom.

Sportspeople who HAVE Va Va Voom, include tennis stars Roger Federer (39%), Rafael Nadal (37%) and Real Madrid FC Manager Jose Mourinho (34%), followed by Liverpool FC Manager Kenny Dalglish (18%) and ex-Australian cricket star Shane Warne (18%).

It seems that being a love rat is a fast way to lose your Va Va Voom.  At the top of the list of sportsmen who according to respondents who do NOT have Va Va Voom was Wayne Rooney with only 71%, Tiger Woods (58%) and John Terry (55%).

Of Britain’s chefs, Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver were thought to have all the right ingredients with those polled stating they HAVE Va Va Voom (47% and 32% respectively).  But the soufflé has collapsed for Gordon Ramsay with only 17% of people thinking he HAS Va Va Voom, followed by Delia Smith with 14%.

In an X Factor showdown, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue scored best with 48% and 45% respectively, beating their boss Simon Cowell who only had 31% of people think he HAS Va Va Voom.  Only 8% of those polled said Louis Walsh HAS Va Va Voom.

Other people the respondents decided do NOT have Va Va Voom include Piers Morgan (55%), Ricky Gervais (54%), Tom Cruise (35%) and Julian Assange (32%).  

Trudie Styler, whose husband Sting recently shared arguably too many details of their bedroom secrets, came in a disappointing last with only 4% of those polled saying she HAS Va Va Voom.

In terms of cities, London triumphed over the rest of the UK with 44% of those polled thinking the capital HAS Va Va Voom. Dublin came in second with 28%, followed by Manchester (18%), Newcastle (16%), Liverpool (15%), Glasgow (15%), Cardiff (12%), Bristol (11%), Birmingham (11%), Nottingham (8%) Sheffield (7%), Belfast (7%).

In the ongoing cultural battle between the French and the English, it may be surprising to learn that, for once, the two countries are equal.  Of the people surveyed for the Va Va Voom poll, 23% decided that France HASVa Va Voom, and 23% of people also decided that England possessed the same quality.

Launched last night, the commercial created by Publicis London, also stars screen icons Audrey Hepburn and Marlon Brando and features music legend, David Bowie.  

The music is a mix of Rihanna’s S&M, Clare Maguire’s Ain’t Nobody and David Bowie’s Space Oddity.

The original Renault Clio  Va Va Voom campaigns, starring Thierry Henry, became so popular that the phrase ‘Va Va Voom’ entered the Oxford English Dictionary in 2004, as ‘the quality of being exciting, vigorous and sexually attractive'.‘Va Va Voom’ is a registered trademark of Renault.
