Feel like a star at some of the world’s finest hotels

15th February 2011 Print

As the biggest night in the film industry’s calendar approaches, Worldhotels, the leading group for independent hotels, looks back at some of the Oscar winning stars who have graced not just the silver screen, but its hotels as well.

The Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen, a classic and elegant five star hotel, boasts flawless service and immaculate rooms, not to mention a celebrity clientele. Academy Award winners Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Woody Allen and Lauren Bacall have all spent time at the property. The most recent star to stay was Nicole Kidman, who won an Oscar for the Drama The Hours in 2003 and who is a contender for ‘Best Actress’ at this year’s Academy Awards for her role in Rabbit Hole. If you fancy some star-studded luxury, one night at the Hotel D’Angleterre costs from £262 in a double room on a bed and breakfast basis.

Hotel de Sers in Paris is a haven amidst the hustle and bustle of the stylish French capital. With just 52 rooms the five star property is located in a 19th century mansion that has been artfully restored to offer its guests small château charm combined with contemporary style – it’s easy to see why it’s a hot spot for the rich and famous. Oscar winners Hilary Swank, James Cameron and Marion Cotillard have all stayed here. Although not (yet) the proud owners of an Academy Award, guests Leonardo di Caprio and Brad Pitt also deserve a mention. One night at the property costs from £254 per night in a double room on a bed and breakfast basis.

Grand Hotel Rica, located in the heart of Oslo, close to all the city’s main attractions, is an elegant, deluxe five star property. Focused on offering premium service and refined ambience, it’s easy to see why Oscar winners such as Michael Douglas, Denzel Washington, Gary Cooper, Ginger Rogers and Anjelica Huston chose to stay at this hotel. To experience the glamorous property first hand, one night costs from £177, in a double room on a bed and breakfast basis.

Grand Hotel Europa in Innsbruck is the ideal location to enjoy the city centre and the impressive Austrian mountain scenery. The only five star hotel in the city offers 116 rooms and suites as well as a restaurant and bar; this is where Academy Award winner Cher (Moonstruck) enjoyed a break. She recently starred in the movie Burlesque and won a Golden Globe for the soundtrack song You Haven't Seen the Last of Me. One night in a double room costs from £133 on a bed and breakfast basis.

Savoy Berlin in Germany’s capital is just minutes from Kurfürstendamm, the famous shopping promenade. With 125 rooms and suites the property offers an individual service and classic surroundings and it’s here that Academy Award winner Ken Adam, who is famous for the set designs of the James Bond films of the 1960s and 1970s has his Berlin home. One night at the Savoy Berlin costs from £79 in a double room on a room only basis.
