Timperley, Cheshire-based GB Freight celebrated the New Year by adding another Volvo FH-500 tractor to their fleet. Company boss, Peter Rowlands has given himself a hedge against the recession with a flexible contract from Thomas Hardie Commercials, his local Volvo Dealer.

Peter explained, “I fully intend to keep this truck for two years and then get two more, but with the economy in the state it is, I couldn’t safely commit to a conventional two year contract. Thomas Hardie Commercials at Trafford Park made the effort to understand my position and I’ve taken this new FH, and another, on a two-year Flexi Contract Hire agreement, with a break out clause after 12 months”

Operating from their base near Altrincham, Cheshire, GB Freight now run three Volvo FH-500 6x2 tractors moving paper reels and corrugated paper for leading suppliers.

Running at top gross weights, Peter is very pleased with the fuel returns. He said, “I’m getting 8.3 mpg fully freighted and that’s a pretty good figure in this business. Fancy fuel figures are like a fisherman’s tale. Anybody can get high returns with a lower gross.” he said. To underline his point, Peter added, “I moved a load of toilet rolls to help someone out recently and the FH was giving me over 12mpg.”

Let’s hope they arrived in time.
