One of the country's oldest estates on Cornwall's Helford River has tapped into a far more ancient natural resource to create the ultimate detoxifying treatment for its organic Walled Garden Spa.

Trelowarren has been working with the Cornish Sea Salt Co - operating a few miles down the coast on the Lizard Peninsula - to devise a body scrub which leaves the skin feeling salty fresh - like a dip in the clearest waters from where the crystals came.

It is the latest bespoke treatment on the luxurious but ethical spa menu created with award-winning Cornish skincare brand Spiezia Organics whose products are handmade, mainly from locally grown flowers and herbs, just a mile down the Helford at Gear Farm.

"We aim to keep everything here as local and practically sustainable as possible," says Victoria Vyvyan who, alongside her husband Sir Ferrers Vyvyan, has spent the last two decades restoring the fabric and fortunes of the thousand acre estate which has been in the family for 600 years.

"Spiezia exactly fits that profile and so does the Cornish Sea Salt Company which is bringing the most fantastic product to kitchens all over the world - and soon to our Spa!"

"It's certainly an interesting departure for us," says Gene Joyner, Managing Director of the multi award-winning company which hand-harvests sea salt from the pristine, Grade A waters off Porthkerris on the Lizard for sale across the globe.

"Our aim with Cornish Sea Salt is always to do extraordinary things and although we've had the spa possibilities at the back of our minds we've never quite found the right moment to do anything with it. The fact that we happen to be working with the team up the road at Trelowarren is a real bonus."

The Trelowarren team has been testing the new "Invigorating Cornish Sea Salt Scrub" over the last few weeks to make it a Spring addition to the Walled Garden Spa menu.

Spa manager Sally Orchard devised the detoxifying treatment after discussions with the Spiezia team. It includes a dry body brush to get the blood and lymph circulating in the body, followed by a scrub combining Cornish Sea Salt and Spiezia Organics' Body Firming Oil made with rosemary, green tea, mint and cinnamon.

"Cornish Sea Salt is completely pure and therefore retains the essential minerals like magnesium and potassium that most salts lose in the processing. These are absorbed into the skin rebalancing the system and drawing impurities out. Combined with the body firming oil this intensifies the result leaving the skin feeling firm and tinglingly fresh."

Trelowarren opened the Walled Garden Spa last autumn to offer visitors the perfect relaxing foil for all the swimming, sailing, walking and countless other activities on the doorstep.
Now, as well as finding Cornish Sea Salt in the award winning kitchens of the estate's New Yard Restaurant, visitors can discover its benefits on their own skin.

The "Invigorating Cornish Sea Salt Scrub" is a 45 minute treatment costing £40.
