Gentex Rear Camera Display mirror featured on Lexus CT 200h

Gentex Corporation, the US-based manufacturer of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and camera-based active-safety systems for the automotive industry, has announced that the company’s auto-dimming rearview mirrors with Rear Camera Display (RCD) is now available on the all-new Lexus CT 200h hybrid.  The premium compact CT 200h will be sold globally.

“The CT 200h will feature the Gentex RCD mirror on all models sold without a navigation system,” stated Enoch Jen, Gentex senior vice president.  “We are excited to be included on Toyota’s new generation of fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicles, and exposing new markets to Gentex products should help drive our continued success.”

The vehicle is currently available in Europe and will arrive in North American showrooms this month.  The featured mirror will also be available in Russia, China, Japan and other global markets.

The RCD Mirror contains a liquid crystal display (LCD) that works with a video camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle to provide a view directly behind the vehicle while backing up.  When the vehicle is shifted into “reverse,” a display appears automatically through the auto-dimming mirror’s reflective surface.  The display disappears when the vehicle is shifted into any other gear, a capability that is made possible utilising Gentex “transflective” coating and lighting techniques, which result in a bright, high-resolution colour image.
