Environmentally-conscious bespoke kitchen specialist Plain English hit upon a recipe for success in the shape of two of Britain's first low-emission Euro 5 Mercedes-Benz Vito vans.

Both came equipped with the optional Eco-Start system - a new addition to the Vito's impressive technological armoury but already proven in its larger, Sprinter sibling - which saves fuel simply by cutting the engine automatically whenever the van is stationary for two seconds, then starting it again as soon as the driver depresses the clutch.

Stowmarket-based Plain English was founded in 1992 and specialises in designing and manufacturing high-end, bespoke kitchens. Supplied by Ipswich dealer Orwell Truck & Van, the company's new Compact Vito 113CDIs are being used by its fitters, who travel nationwide to install these much sought-after kitchens.

Jennifer Joyce, Plain English's General Manager, said the company was determined to minimise its carbon footprint and ensure its commercial activities were as 'green' as possible - key to this approach, was a commitment to operating fuel-efficient vehicles boasting the best environmental credentials.

"We've always been conscious of 'green' issues when choosing our vehicles, ensuring not only that we get the right models for the job but also that they also deliver the best miles-per- gallon performance and are as environmentally-friendly as possible.

"Given our portfolio of discerning clients, it's also of paramount importance that the quality of the delivery vehicles we use reflects the quality of the products we sell. Our preference for Mercedes-Benz vans, with all that the three-pointed star says about quality and prestige, goes a long way towards helping us achieve this."

An Orwell Truck & Van customer for 10 years, Plain English knew exactly where to turn to part-exchange its two previous Vito vans for the new models, both of which are also equipped with optional air-conditioning systems.

The new Mercedes-Benz Vito is powered by an all-new range of Euro 5-compliant four- and six-cylinder engines that not only meet the latest emission standards but also deliver significant improvements in fuel economy.
