One of Britain’s top international women soccer stars is going topless whenever the sun shines – thanks to MG Motor UK!

Sue Smith, who has scored 16 goals in 90 appearances for England, has just taken delivery of an iconic MG TF sports car – which gives her the option of wind-in-the-hair open-top motoring.

The petite winger has been a top flight player for years and is one of the driving forces behind the English National Women’s team’s brilliant record.

Highly placed in the FIFA world rankings, England last week beat pre-tournament favourites the USA in what could be the start of a journey that will see Sue and her team mates crowned World Champions in July.

Sue, who is renowned for her ever-changing flamboyant hair styles – and colours! – said: “We want to succeed where our men have failed since 1966 and bring the World Cup home.

“I am thrilled that MG Motor UK recognises that the women’s game is now just as thrilling, especially at international level, as the men’s game and are sponsoring me with this fantastic sports car.

“There was glorious sunshine when I picked the car up at the MG Birmingham factory and I can’t wait to drive it – with the top up or down.”

Sue appeared alongside Wayne Rooney in his three-part Sky 1 show ‘Street Striker’.

In an amazing career, Sue Smith made her senior debut at the tender age of 14, playing for Tranmere Rovers Ladies. She received her first England cap when she was just 17.

Last month Sue scored both goals in a 2-0 England win over South Korea.

Sue moved to Leeds United in 2002 and had great success. Leeds challenged the established powers of the women’s game including the famous Doncaster Belles and, latterly, Arsenal and Everton. After so many near misses, Sue was part of the Leeds United team that took the Women’s Premier League cup in 2009/2010 beating Everton 3-1 in the final.

This year sees the formation of the new Women’s Super League and, with Leeds not taking part; Sue decided to join the leagues only brand new team – Lincoln City Ladies.

Sue has represented England in World Cup Quarter finals, the European Championship final and been a winner in the annual invitational Cyprus Cup that England lifted in 2009.

She has been voted the player’s ‘Player of the Year’ (surely, the prize that every sports person covets the most as it is awarded by their peers), FA International Player of the year (twice) and has also been picked in a representative world XI who played against the then world champions the USA in the San Jose stadium.

In addition to her fantastic achievements on the pitch, Sue has been recognised for her work coaching and supporting young players and the women’s game in the community. In 2009, Sue was awarded an honorary masters degree for services to football and the community.

Sue will use the bright silver 1.8-litre MG TF to travel to matches, training sessions and her many coaching and public engagements.

Along with her teammates, Sue plays football with the same sense of fun, verve and energy that we remember from our childhoods – playing the game for the love of it rather than simply for monetary reward.
