New Mercedes-Benz Vito is a hero of hire for HSS
Tool and equipment hire specialist HSS Hire has recruited one of the first examples from a new Mercedes-Benz van range to a nationwide initiative which supports community projects.
The Euro 5 Vito 113CDI was supplied on a long-term loan basis by Warrington dealer Enza and is being used by HSS on its Heroes of Hire campaign, under which the company backs staff who volunteer to help out with local charities and other deserving groups.
“At HSS Hire we like to support good causes,” explained the company’s PR Manager Anna Exley. “Our Heroes of Hire programme often sees us out and about, lending a helping hand in our local communities. This van has made it so much easier for us to get our Heroes and their equipment to projects around the country.
“We are very grateful to Enza for their generous sponsorship in providing us with this very smart, low-emission Mercedes-Benz Vito. It’s fantastic to drive and looks great.”
HSS volunteers frequently help out with painting, decorating and similar tasks. The Vito is a Compact model but still offers an impressively spacious cargo area for transporting tools and equipment. Its eye-catching special livery, meanwhile, means the vehicle also serves as a mobile billboard for Heroes of Hire.
As well as supporting staff who undertake good deeds, the Vito is earning its keep by visiting HSS stores across the UK as part of an ‘internal values’ initiative designed to help raise still higher the company’s reputation for excellent customer service.
HSS Hire has 250 Supercentres, branches and agencies throughout the UK and operates to the highest British and International quality service standards; it is the only hire company to have attained a 4-star Health & Safety rating from the British Safety Council.

The new Mercedes-Benz Vito range is a market-leader in terms of safety. It is powered by a range of Euro 5-compliant four- and six-cylinder engines that not only meet the latest emission standards but also deliver significant improvements in fuel economy.
HSS Hire resolved in 2009 to switch its entire fleet of nearly 500 vans to the three-pointed star after a 12-month trial of a Mercedes Sprinter fitted with the innovative ECO-Start system, which cuts the engine whenever the vehicle is stationary – for example in queuing traffic – then starts it again as soon as the driver depresses the clutch. Working from a depot in the heart of Manchester, it consumed an impressive 10 per cent less diesel than equivalent models from HSS Hire’s outgoing vehicle supplier.
