Freiburg - A summer full of highlights!
Blessed by the sun and surrounded by rolling, green Black Forest hills, Freiburg, the capital of the Black Forest, offers its visitors southern flair and a warm, positive feel.
Its historic town centre still forms the hub of activity in today’s Freiburg. One feature that never ceases to amaze is the ‘Bächle’; the stone-clad water channel system that weaves through Freiburg’s streets and alleyways. Being able to relieve one’s weary feet during a city centre stroll by dipping them into the Bächle is a unique service only Freiburg can proudly offer.
29 June - 17 July 2011: International ‘Zelt-Musik-Festival’

The different tents and stages, such as the Zirkuszelt, the Spiegelzelt and the Actionbühne and the refreshment stands and grassy meadows are surrounded by rolling, terraced hills alive with musicians and festival goers, turning the ‘Zelt-Musik-Festival’ into an unforgettable experience.
30 June - 5 July 2011: Freiburg Wine Festival
During the first weekend in July, Freiburg’s Münsterplatz becomes a showcase for the Baden way of life. For six days, regional wine growing cooperatives and private vineyards invite you to sample the riches from local kitchens and cellars. Over 400 wines, including the entire range of Baden wines and those of the finest quality, are waiting to be tried by the festival visitors. Renowned catering establishments from Freiburg and its surrounding area will be on-hand to serve the perfect wine accompaniments in the form of local and international delicacies. The culinary offering ranges from typical local onion cake to fine gourmet dishes.
Until 30 October 2011: Our Black Forest. Romance and Reality
A large, special exhibition devoted to the history and stories of the Black Forest is shown at the Augustiner Museum, displaying the museum’s large collection of folkloristic artefacts in a new, fresh, sometimes even tongue-in-cheek angle. Is the Black Forest full of colour, wildly romantic or both? The exhibition picks up on these clichés and exposes them, offering new perspectives on a cultivated landscape that is recognised as a homeland, travel destination and native soil of successful merchants, inventors, artists and poets, not just in Germany but worldwide.
