It is easyJet’s sixth new route to launch from London Gatwick in 2011, bringing the total number of destinations available from the airport to 92.

Paul Simmons, easyJet’s UK Director, said: “Set against the back drop of Mount Etna and surrounding nature reserve, Catania is a beautiful holiday destination. The port city offers a variety a leisure and cultural activities with something for everyone – especially with our low value fares.

“easyJet is the largest airline to fly from London Gatwick and the new Catania route means we now offer the choice of 92 destinations. This year alone we have launched new routes to Amman, Seville, Izmir, Bologna and Zagreb.”

Situated on Sicily’s eastern coastline, Catania boasts wide streets, majestic palaces, historic Roman ampitheatres and glorious summer sun. As the tenth largest city in Italy, Catania has a baroque centre and is now one of the country’s most prominent cultural, artistic and political centres.
