Bill and Elsie Tew planned to move from County Durham to Somerset – but found their dream David Wilson home just five miles away instead!

The retired couple, from Willington, had decided to move to the South West and visited David Wilson developments in Bridgwater, Taunton and Street, where they fell in love with the housebuilder’s “Hadley” design – a traditional 3-bedroom detached home.

However they were unable to secure the one they wanted and returned home – to find a Hadley for sale nearby at Burton Woods, Spennymoor.

“A lot of people found it quite amusing when we ended up so near to where we started,” said Elsie, “but it’s in a perfect location as we love walking.

“You can walk straight into the countryside yet you are only 10 to 15 minutes’ walk from the town. It’s a lovely location.”

She added: “We were just sold on the house, it’s perfect. We love the interior layout, particularly the through lounge and also the hall and the kitchen/diner.”

And Elsie was so pleased with the service they received from sales advisers Karen Swallow and Helen Gates, and site manager Michael Marram and his assistant Brian Appleby, that she wrote them a poem.

Former receptionist Elsie says she often composes verses while her husband is driving.

“The lines for the poem just kept popping into my head,” she said. “We had such a good relationship with the team. They were really good and we’re delighted.”

Bill, a retired engineer, is originally from Surrey while Elsie is from the North East. Their only daughter Julie lives in Australia.

Their new home has a traditional double-fronted exterior and a free-flowing interior layout which maximises space and natural light. The central entrance hall leads into a sitting room on one side and open-plan kitchen / dining / family room on the other.

On the first floor the master bedroom has an en suite, and there are two further bedrooms and family bathroom.

David Wilson North East is building a wide selection of homes at Burton Woods, offering from two to five bedrooms in nine different styles. Prices range from £124,000 to £445,000.
