JHR Developments, one of the most successful independent one-make marque racing teams in the UK, is preparing to enter a three car team in the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship.
SEAT Sport UK will field a pair of Leon TDIs for Jason Plato and Darren Turner to race in the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship, as SEAT becomes the first manufacturer to enter the series with diesel-engined cars.
SEAT Sport UK will retain its Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Teams' winning driver line up for 2008, with Jason Plato and Darren Turner confirmed as the squad's drivers for next season. They will pilot the team's two-car SEAT Leon challenge.
Martin Byford, the 2007 Clio Cup Champion, is the first driver to officially register for the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship. He will race a brand new Leon Cupra, run by Z Speed Racing and supported by A&B Glass, Saracen Security, UK Fasteners and G Signs.
The top three finishers in the New Leon Cupra Class of the 2007 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship – Jonathan Adam, Fulvio Mussi and Carl Breeze – together with the winner from the Leon Cupra R Class, Harry Vaulkhard, tested SEAT Sport UK’s BTCC Leon at the Rockingham racing circuit near Corby today, as part of their prize for a season of success.
In the final meeting of the 2007 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship, Jonathan Adam (Total Control Racing) finally made his New Leon Cupra class title official, while Harry Vaulkhard (Volkis Boozer's/Triple R) secured the Leon Cupra R class crown with a 3rd place finish in Round 19.
Having been seriously burnt in a filming accident earlier in the weekend, Jason Plato was described as ‘superhuman’ by his SEAT Sport UK team boss Scott Dennis (SEAT UK Motorsport Manager) after ignoring the pain and driving his heart out in a dramatic finale at the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire.
Jason Plato has been hurt in an incident during filming for the Channel 5 Fifth Gear programme.
