The Grand Union to open in Camberwell Grove

23rd September 2009 Print
Innovative independent pub group The Grand Union is continuing to expand with the launch of The Grand Union Camberwell Grove at the end of October 2009.

Set among the tree-lined streets and Georgian terraces of Camberwell Grove, the site has long held a particular attraction for those in the arts and creative fields; from literary giant John Ruskin in the nineteenth century (after whom nearby Ruskin Park is named), to more recent residents such as Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, who lived next to the pub on Camberwell Grove itself.

Nearby, Camberwell College of Arts has nurtured some of BritArt's biggest stars, including Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, whilst the King’s College Hospital just round the corner has been used to teach doctors and treat patients since 1913.

With plans to acquire a further two sites, GU Group are projecting 12 sites in its business portfolio by Q1 2010. GU intends to build its core Grand Union brand over the next two years, with the intention to expand nationally by 2012.

Managing Director Adam Marshall is continuously seeking the right investment opportunities to realise his long term ambitions for the group.

Whilst the recession has hit the bar industry greatly, The Grand Union has managed to keep costs low and customer satisfaction high, resulting in a sustainable business model for future growth.

2009 has been an exciting year for the GU Group with five extremely successful openings:

Brixton (February)
Kennington (March)
The Grand Union at The Three Locks in Stoke Hammond, Buckinghamshire (April),
Ravenscourt Park (May)
Camberwell Grove (October).

Managing Director Adam Marshall comments,

“We are delighted to be taking over the beautiful Grove Pub in Camberwell Green. We believe our unique design and menu will blend perfectly in this up-and-coming area of South-East London. We’re please to be working with Young’s to develop this property into a sophisticated, yet accessible venue for the local area.”
