Judge John Deed: Series 2 On DVD

22nd January 2007 Print
Judge John Deed Martin Shaw returns as the free-thinking judge with a reputation for asking difficult questions and refusing to compromise his principles. Created by one of Britain’s most eminent writers, G F Newman; Judge John Deed is compelling television with a charismatic central figure, strong storylines and a tremendous cast.

An idealist at heart, the Judge’s more traditional colleagues regard him as something of a renegade. He’s made it to the top of his profession on his own terms, armed with a sharp intellect, a rakish charm, keen wit and a passionate belief in justice. Fearless and independent, he is sworn to serve state and sovereign, not the government hacks that constantly try to influence his decisions.

Alongside murder, corruption and fraud this second series raises some important questions of justice: a man with a mental age of 13 on trial for murder; the uncovering of a massive mortgage fraud; children accused of conspiring to murder their parents; and the rights of a 15 year old boy refusing a heart transplant.

There are problems too, away from the courtroom. His tempestuous relationships with Jo Mills (Jenny Seagrove) and the Rochesters (Jemma Redgrave, Simon Chandler), his student daughter’s pregnancy by a married tutor and his ex-wife’s engagement to a Cabinet Minister.

This DVD includes all the episodes from the second series of this excellent drama.
