Historic aircraft scramble to attend Vintage Fly-In and Air Display Following on from the recent announcement of plans for the 2008 Goodwood Aero Club Vintage Fly-In and Air Display, a number of significant historic aircraft have already confirmed their attendance to this increasingly popular event, due to be held over the May Bank Holiday weekend of Sunday 25 and Monday 26 May.

A squadron of First World War bi-planes are scheduled to fly into the historic Goodwood airfield, along with a number of iconic WWII aircraft that flew from this ex-Battle of Britain site in West Sussex, including the legendary Spitfire.

Fans of jet-powered aircraft will enjoy an air display by a Hawker Hunter, Britain’s first native transonic fighter, designed in 1948 by Sir Sydney Camm. Despite some initial teething troubles, the Hunter went on to huge success, with almost 2,000 examples being built, ultimately serving with over a dozen air forces all around the world.

The 2008 Goodwood Aero Club Vintage Fly-In will give everyone the chance to get close to the pioneering and evocative aircraft from the golden age of flying, be they avid aviation enthusiasts or curious casual observers. A large variety of other family attractions will also include modern aircraft, a traditional vintage fun fair, avionics displays, radio-control model aircraft and a host of other entertainments.

Advanced entry tickets are now on sale via the Goodwood Ticket Sales office, on 01243 755055. Admission is only £15 in advance, or £20 on the gate, with children 12 years old or under admitted for free. A weekend ticket in advance will cost £25. For an extra £3 will be charged for all visitors to ‘walk the line’ of the vintage aircraft display.

The Goodwood Aerodrome will be open between 08:00 to 18:30 on both days, and all aircraft owners are invited to ‘fly-in’ in vintage clothing. Free landings will be offered for any pre-1967 aircraft. A normal landing fee will apply to all other aircraft, and prior landing permission will be required.

The Goodwood Aerodrome is located at the former RAF Westhampnett, a key Battle of Britain airfield in West Sussex. Today the site includes the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, the sympathetically-restored race track that hosts the nostalgic Goodwood Revival meeting every autumn (19-21 September 2008); an event that also includes a breathtaking aviation element, in addition to a spectacular array of cars and motorcycles, with star drivers and riders on hand to thrill the crowds.

The Goodwood Aero Club offers enthusiasts the opportunity to indulge their passion for aviation and flying and be part of Goodwood’s rich aviation history.
