Cars count when love's about

13th February 2009 Print
Forget wit, charm and good looks when trying to attract the opposite sex, a third of Britons admit they would be more attracted to you simply because of the car you drive.

Women's car insurance specialist Diamond quizzed 3,000 people on how a car can affect someone's attractiveness and found that 36% are more attracted by the type of car someone drives. Shockingly, more than 1 in 10 said that even if someone was really ugly, but drove a great car, they'd still date them! 1 in 5 said the more a car costs the more attractive it makes the driver.

Men are more superficial than women though, as twice as many said they'd date someone ugly because of their car, and they were 50% more likely to be attracted to someone the more expensive their car.

Diamond managing director, Sian Lewis, commented, "These results show just what an impact the car you drive can have on a potential partner. I wouldn't want to seem biased and say that men are more shallow than women but this does seem to be the case. However, what would happen if you sold the car, would they dump you?"

But which cars are the most likely to make you look more attractive? Aston Martin comes out on top overall followed by Ferrari and Lamborghini. When looking closer we can see that women are most attracted to someone in an Aston Martin whereas men most want someone in a Ferrari.

On the other hand, the worst car to drive if you want to attract someone is a SEAT followed by a Chevrolet and Skoda. If you own one of these in brown then you're going to struggle as it's the colour least likely to be found attractive.

Sian continued, "If you're a man driving an Aston Martin or a woman driving a Ferrari, apart from being very lucky to own one in the first place, it looks like it'll majorly aid your chances of looking more attractive. If it's black you've got an ever better chance as that was seen as the most attractive colour. However, if you're in a brown Seat you might want to make that extra effort with you're appearance if you're looking for love!"

Finally, it seems that the car someone drives is the perfect way to break the ice as 54% of people would use it as a talking point when looking for love and 1 in 10 have got romantically involved with someone as a result of the car they drive.
