Ascari KZ1 Storms into top five on BBC Top Gear leader board

14th November 2005 Print
The Banbury built Ascari KZ1 supercar has recently stormed the BBC Top Gear leader board, blitzing the likes of the Ford GT and SLR Mclaren to claim a top five spot in the league of fastest laps around the Top Gear track.

The highly respected ‘power lap’ leader board represents the pinnacle of the supercar world, delivering a make or break conclusion to willing manufacturers and their exotic machinery. With Ascari a new name on the supercar scene, the pressure was on. If the British manufacturer was to make its mark in a hugely competitive industry then it had to perform, and perform it did.

Driven by the Stig, Top Gear’s very own anonymous racer, the KZ1 put in one of the fastest laps in the programme’s history, scorching from start to finish in a blistering 1minute 20.7seconds. Outperforming more expensive rivals such as the Pagani Zonda and Koenigsegg CC by more than two seconds, the Ascari’s time was enough to secure a place alongside the Ferrari Enzo and Porsche Carrera GT as one of the fastest cars on the planet.

What may come as the biggest surprise is that the £235,000 KZ1 isn’t a stripped out, hard edged track day special with a jarring ride and a peaky power delivery. Instead, the KZ1 is the everyday supercar, designed for optimum performance and comfort in all conditions and environments. As happy cruising Continents as it is trouncing more established around a race track, the Ascari has clearly made its mark on the industry, demonstrating that in the KZ1, Britain has a machine to rival the worlds best.
