London pub becomes Austrian fan base for UEFA Euro

26th May 2008 Print
Expect emotions... along with Edelweiss, cowbells and scrumptious Austrian fare at a central London pub throughout the championship. The Crown and Two Chairmen on Dean Street in London’s Soho will be the official home of Austrian football fans during UEFA EURO 2008 next month.

“I like the idea and enjoy doing things like this. Why not support Austria, especially as none of the home nation teams are playing and cater for the Austrians in London and give our regulars a taste of the host nation”, says Craig Livingstone, the publican of this well-known West End gastro pub.

The first-floor bar and lounge will serve Austrian food and drink on match days, when football fans will flock to the pub to follow the games on a large screen.

Austrian nibbles on the menu will include Bratwurst, Schnitzels, potato salad, cold cuts and are sure to give guests a taste of Austrian hospitality. The bar is stocked with a selections of beers and wines, shots of Schnapps and, notably, Almdudler, a soft drink that enjoys cult status amongst the host nation’s inhabitants and visitors.

No wonder the Austrian community in London is delighted by the enthusiasm of The Crown and Two Chairmen team and eager for the tournament to start.
