Catch the breeze and learn to kite surf in Aruba

2nd July 2008 Print
Catch the breeze and learn to kite surf in Aruba Learn to kite surf in perfect conditions along the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba’s windswept south shore this summer. Lessons take place at the north end of Palm Beach, where an ideal combination of gentle winds, shallow warm waters and soft white sand provide an excellent playground for budding thrill-seekers.

Starting on dry land, qualified instructors demonstrate safety and how to read the wind, make use of the harness and control the kite, before progressing into the water.

KiteSurfing Aruba offers a two and a half hour Introduction to Kitesurfing lesson from US$100 per person (around £50) which includes the newest Cabrinha kitesurf equipment, a qualified IKO and VWDS certified instructor, life-vest and harness. Advance packages offering four consecutive lessons are available for US$400 (around £200) – see kitesurfingaruba.com.

Converts to the new sport can watch the professionals in action at the Aruba Hi-Winds competition which takes place in early July each year – see Aruba-hiwinds.org.
