Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship carrier, has been named the airline with the world’s Best Economy Class 2007 in the 2006/7 World Airline Awards. The award is the result of the World Airline Survey conducted by the industry's leading airline auditor, Skytrax.

The World Airline Awards are recognised across the globe as the leading independent monitor of passenger opinions.

Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines were ranked second and third in the category respectively. Korean Air also ranked as one of the top five airlines in the Best Inflight Entertainment Award and Best First Class Catering Award categories. Korean Air's First Class Lounge in Seoul Incheon also ranked as one of the Top 10 globally.

“We regard this as a major achievement for any airline, and congratulate Korean Air on securing this very clear vote of customer confidence and satisfaction for their Economy class product and service standards,” said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, who recognised Korean Air’s “new level of achievement”, which reflects “a strong combination of both product and staff service quality”.

Mr. Jonghee Lee, President of Korean Air, said, “We are very honoured to be voted the Best Economy Class 2007 by millions of customers. It is very encouraging to know that our innovative and quality service was recognised by passengers all over the world. We will continue to deliver “Excellence in Flight” and enhance our service and facilities to best serve our customers.”

Korean Air is a frequent winner of industry awards. In February this year, Korean Air was named one of the best Cellars in the Sky by Business Traveller. In March, it won the Mercury Award from the International Travel Catering Association (ITCA) for the development and service implementation of “A Letter From Flying Mom” service for unaccompanied minor passengers and their families. Korean Air also won the global OAG Award for Best Economy Class in April 2007.

The World Airline Awards are based on the annual World Airline Survey by Skytrax, the largest passenger survey in the world, carried out between August 2006 and June 2007. The 2006/7 survey received over 14 million eligible nominations around the world. Established in 1989, Skytrax is a privately owned UK company, based in London, specialising in air transport industry research.
