Romania and Bulgaria up and coming destinations for budget travellers

22nd December 2006 Print
January sees Romania and Bulgaria joining the European Union, making them even more accessible to the rest of Europe than ever before.

Both countries are getting more popular with British travellers who are looking for cheaper holiday options within Europe. The beach resorts of the Black Sea, the mountain ski resorts and the capital cities, Sofia and Bucharest are proving the most popular options with travellers on a budget.

As well as being relatively cheap to travel to these countries offer travellers something different from other more developed places in Europe, especially with their strong folklore tradition and medieval life that prevails in the countryside that can make them intriguing destinations to visit.

The Dracula legend draws visitors worldwide to Romania, as it is said that fictional character was inspired by one of the best known figures in Romanian history, Vlad Dracula and Bulgaria is home to nine UNESCO world heritage sites. And the ski resorts can offer much better value for money for beginner and intermediate skiers than France and Austria.

For travellers wanting to experience these countries Flight Centre has a number of travel options to both countries. A ski trip to Borovets in Bulgaria for example is from £244 per person in January including flights and self-catering accommodation or from £350 per person in Romania in the beautiful resort of Poianan Brasov including flights and half board hotel accommodation. Both countries are perfect ski destinations for beginners and intermediates.

For those that want to try a summer holiday on the fashionable Black Sea Flight Centre offers beach holidays to the popular resort of Varna in Bulgaria from £201 per person in June including return flights and accommodation at the Dana Palace.

And with Valentines Day coming up in February why not treat your loved one to a city break with a difference and whisk them away to the quaint city of Sofia or Bucharest? Flight Centre has a three night city break to Sofia from £315 per person flying with BA and bed and breakfast accommodation at the 4* Rodina hotel or three nights in Bucharest from £325 per person flying with BA and bed and breakfast accommodation at the 3* Casa Bucur in February.
