Berkeley Homes unveils its summer collection Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd has unveiled its summer collection of apartments, each complete with a fabulous private terrace. The collection’s highlights include a terrace at Caspian Wharf that is actually larger in size than the internal accommodation and a range of ‘his and hers’ terraces at Hoppers Yard.

The terraces, which range in size from 44 to a massive 1,426 square foot can be found at the house builder’s Caspian Wharf, Hoopers Yard and Forest Hill Central developments, located in Bow, Whitechapel and Forest Hill respectively.

According to research by FindaProperty.com , a terrace adds between 5 and 15 per cent to the value of a property, meaning that buying an apartment with a terrace is not only good for the summer, it’s also good for long term property prospects.

Whether you want a tranquil place to read the newspapers, fresh air in which to practice yoga or an al fresco place to entertain, terraces are the outside space of choice for busy London residents. Terraces are perfect urban gardens, with a very low level of maintenance and a multitude of uses.

Some of the most stunning terraces can be found at Caspian Wharf, Berkeley Homes’ Bow development of 82 private studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments on Violet Road, E3. Caspian Wharf is home to the terrace that is bigger than the internal accommodation, with the 5th floor three-bedroom apartment having a terrace of 1,426 square feet and an internal space of 850 square feet. Caspian Wharf’s enviable position on the banks of Limehouse Cut affords the terraces panoramic views towards Canary Wharf, providing an ever-changing backdrop that is just as pretty by night as it is by day. Caspian Wharf also has a large communal terrace and elevated landscaped podium for residents’ exclusive use. Prices start from £205,000 for a studio apartment.

At Hoopers Yard, the new build phase at City Quarter in E1, purchasers of the two and three-bedroom penthouses can revel in not one but two terraces per penthouse. The terraces lead off the kitchen and living areas, with one at the front of the penthouse and one at the rear. Finding private outdoor space so close to the Square Mile is hugely difficult, so these dual terrace penthouses present a rare opportunity to gain two areas of private outdoor space. In addition, there’s a balcony to the bedroom. The terraces could become ‘his and hers’ spaces, one for each person, or they could be designed as formal and informal outside areas – the options are endless. Each terrace overlooks landscaped grounds within the development. There are currently eight dual terrace penthouses for sale at Hoopers Yard, with prices starting from £850,000 and rising to £1.1 million. Ground floor apartments with terraces are priced from £400,000.

Over at Forest Hill Central in Forest Hill, SE23, there are terraces on every level of the five-floor building. This development of 46 private ownership one, two and three-bedroom apartments on the corner of Perry Vale and Hindsley's Place, is proving a hit with rail commuters, as the scheme is located a minutes walk from Forest Hill train station, with journey times to London Bridge from 12 minutes.

Ranging in size from 52 to 483 square feet, purchasers at Forest Hill Central don’t have to compromise on commutability or outside space, with the terraces providing mini-havens in urban South East London. Prices at Forest Hill Central start from £250,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.
