New charity donation service goes live at all RBS cash machines

20th June 2012 Print

LINK, the UK cash machine network, has announced that a new service to enable customers to make charity donations at UK cash machines has gone live with Royal Bank of Scotland as the first participant.

Cardholders using LINK cards (debit and ATM) from the banks and building societies below can make donations to the following charities at all Royal Bank of Scotland group ATMs.

Cancer Research UK
Barnardo's
Oxfam's Emergency Work
Scottish Television Appeal
RNIB
Age UK
Children In Need
Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) Appeal

Other ATM operators will be joining during 2012 and this service will be initially available to cardholders of the following LINK members with others completing the required technical changes later in 2012.

The new service will be simple to use. Customers will simply be given the option on screen to make a donation.  The minimum donation value is £1.00 while the maximum value will depend on the limit set by the customer's bank but will normally be between £150 and £500.

There is no commission on these donations, no ATM provider nor LINK will charge any commission for these donations, in every case the full value will be paid to the charity.

John Howells, CEO of LINK commented "Having the option to make a charity donation at ATMs is a tremendous development which really makes it easy for people to give. ATMs play a pivotal role in our day-to-day lives and we hope that adding this extra service will give charities a boost at a time when they most need it."

Steve Lampshire, RBS Senior Community Affairs Manager said, "Charities do very important work in the community and we are very happy to support this new vehicle for giving.  Over 2 billion ATM transactions were made in UK last year; so it's pretty obvious it is a regular part of most people's daily lives. We know that finances are tight for many people, but if our customers do want to make a donation, we want to make the process as easy as possible for them."
