28th August 2014 Print

Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey Midlands will invest nearly £425,000 in local community facilities as part of a brand new homes development coming soon to Lower Broadheath, Worcestershire.

The development of 48 high-quality properties off Bell Lane has been granted planning permission by Malvern Hills District Council, with construction work due to begin in October and the first homes expected to go on sale from the nearby The Hopyard at Martley development towards the end of October.

The £424,351 being pledged by Taylor Wimpey in association with the development includes a £220,800 contribution towards leisure facilities and public open spaces within the parish and a payment of £167,551 to Worcestershire County Council towards primary and secondary education provision.

Additional payments include £28,000 to improve two bus stops in Bell Lane and two in Martley Road and £3,000 to improve a pedestrian crossing across Martley Road. Meanwhile, £5,000 will be spent on improving cycle routes in the vicinity of the site.

In addition, 40% of the new homes to be constructed at the development will be designated as affordable housing which will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, plus a pair of two-bedroom bungalows.

Andrew Taylor, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “Every single new home we build at Taylor Wimpey is part of a community, and we are committed to ensuring this exciting new development in Lower Broadheath offers much more than just high-quality properties for local people.

“We are delighted to confirm our investment of nearly £425,000, which will help to improve public facilities and infrastructure for the benefit of the whole Lower Broadheath community, ensuring that this sustainable new homes development will both complement and enhance the local area.”

The financial payments to be made by Taylor Wimpey are just one of the ways in which the development will contribute to the health of the local economy.

The development site is located on the southern fringes of Lower Broadheath village, bordered to the south by Bell Lane, while the B4204 Martley Road lies to the north east. The land has been identified within the emerging South Worcestershire Development Plan as the preferred site in Lower Broadheath for new homes, to meet local housing needs.

The development will comprise 48 high-quality homes, with a mix of housetypes, including two-bedroom bungalows and two, three and four-bedroom houses, to suit a range of tastes and budgets. Vehicle access will be taken from Bell Lane, while an existing area of open space at the junction of Bell Lane and Martley Road will be enhanced for the public to enjoy.
