Shaftesbury to get a new housing boost

19th June 2008 Print
One of Britain's oldest towns is to get a much needed boost of new housing as Persimmon Homes prepares to submit detailed building plans to North Dorset District Council for a new housing development located off Salisbury Road, to the east of the town.

Over the last few years Persimmon Homes has been working closely with the District Planners, Town Council and local residents to ensure the new development fits in with Shaftsbury's architecture and rich heritage whilst also meeting the housing needs of the local community.

Persimmon hopes to submit its plans this summer with the intention to start building work on the first 140 homes later this year. There will be a full range of dwellings from apartments to small houses and family homes, with first plots available for purchase in 2009.

As well as new homes, a number of new facilities will be provided by the housebuilder including shops, allotments and local shops. Residents moving into the development and living in the surrounding area will also benefit from an improved bus service.

Rob Allen, sales director at Persimmon Homes South Coast, comments: "We look forward to commencing building work at the site and expect the development to open to the public early next year.

"Shaftesbury is a lovely town and a great part of the UK to live in and we are glad to be bringing much needed new housing to the area. We will be building a total of 670 dwellings here, 232 of which will be affordable to enable local people continue living locally."
