Virgin Atlantic unveils brand new Boston Clubhouse

7th March 2008 Print
Virgin Atlantic has unveiled a brand new Clubhouse for its Upper Class passengers in Boston. The new £1m Clubhouse at Logan International Airport was created by Boston based architectural practice Bergmeyer Architects, in collaboration with the Virgin Atlantic in-house design team.

Joe Ferry, Head of Design for Virgin Atlantic commented:

"The new Boston Clubhouse combines inspirations from the local culture with elements that portray the Virgin Atlantic brand. This is one of the new breeds of Clubhouses that have had Architecture, Design and Service Design imbedded in its development from first principles. We have developed some of the best elements of our flagship clubhouse at Heathrow and innovatively integrated them into the new space."

The Boston Clubhouse is divided into four zones; the Library and Business centre, the Lounge, the Brasserie and the Deli. Accommodating up to 75 passengers, it allows Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class passengers to relax in quiet comfort, surf the Internet, lounge in private banquettes or dine in bistro style.

The Lounge

The Lounge area has a white reception space, with a timber floor that leads into the central room of the Clubhouse. It has a wood and stone panelled feature wall, below which, is leather and mohair banquette seating stretching almost the entire length of the area.

Opposite the feature wall, in wood framed niches, are reading materials, grab and go food and drink and hot and cold beverage stations.

The Brasserie

The brasserie dining area consists of Bertoia chairs and the two long benches, providing an informal area with a continental feel for customers to relax while they enjoy their food or catch up on some work.

The Deli

The centrepiece of the new Clubhouse, the Deli offers a range of healthy dishes from a regionally inspired menu, made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients suitable for all tastes, prepared by Virgin Atlantic’s own Deli Chef. With service designed to provide a modern, private club, there’s no formality. Upper Class passengers are free to help themselves to a selection of drinks, treats and healthy snacks from stations around the Clubhouse. Close to the Deli is the bar area providing a selection of classic drinks and soft beverages.

The Library

The Library is tucked away beyond the main lounge area. It offers a relaxed environment for those passengers wishing some solitude and peace to relax before their flight.

Business Area

The Clubhouse offers new business facilities in the dedicated Business Centre, where passengers can carry out last minute business transactions. The Clubhouse also provides complimentary wifi connectivity, international and business land phone lines. There are also facilities for passengers to charge their mobile phones, iPods and Blackberries.

The Boston Clubhouse is the latest project from the Virgin Atlantic in-house Design team that now includes Service Design, and is the first to be developed within the new structure that combines Architecture, Design and Service Design from first principles.

Virgin Atlantic has recently won the Best Business Class Lounge Award in the World Airline Awards 2007, for its flagship Clubhouse at Heathrow Airport. Virgin Atlantic launched its route between London and Boston in May 1991 and since then 3.3m passengers have flown on the route. Flight number VS011 departs London Heathrow at 14.40 and arrives into Logan International Airport at 17.05. On return the flight, VS012 departs Boston at 19.45 and lands at Heathrow the following morning at 07.15.
