Giving Brits something to smile about

22nd September 2010 Print

More than one in eight adults in the UK has no teeth, and around one in five adults are missing at least ten teeth (UK adult health survey 1999).

Causes include periodontal disease, dental decay or loss of teeth through accidents. There are 13 million people currently wearing dentures in the UK; three million of whom find them uncomfortable.

In the past, missing teeth have been replaced with dentures and bridges. Unfortunately, these treatments have limitations. Dental implants - artificial teeth surgically anchored to the jawbone - are increasingly popular and can provide a better alternative for the majority of people.

Because of the high dental costs at home - at around £2,000 to £3,000 per tooth - people either delay their treatment or travel abroad. It's believed that many of the 10,000 medical tourists who travel overseas do so to have dental implants fitted. At last there is a cost-effective solution with d2d Euroteknika implants, which will cost from £1500 per tooth - a 40% saving over other implant systems available in the UK.

The d2d Euroteknika implant range is manufactured in France. The system has been specifically created in order that the implants and prosthetic components are compatible with most of the current leading implant systems. This makes them very easy and fast for dentists to fit. The Euroteknika design means that dentists can cut down on surgery and laboratory costs without the slightest compromise in quality.

"Euroteknika has a heritage of 20 years so the implant systems are tried and tested and are of the highest quality," says Willie Jack, clinical director of d2d Endodontics, who has fitted over 3,000 implants. "Reputable UK dentists offer competitive payment schemes for dental treatment. UK dentists work under stringent legal requirements - unlike dentists practicing in other countries. Many people travelling abroad do not also calculate the number of return trips they need. Sadly I frequently have to repair implants that have been done incorrectly overseas.

"In these tough economic times forward thinking dentists who don't rely on traditional older expensive implant systems can, with systems like Euroteknika, offer an excellent solution for their patients. So it's good news for all that there's a UK based solution that will only mean a local trip to the dentist."
