Summer luggage: Brits go pink to match the suntan

13th April 2011 Print

Twenga, the most comprehensive shopping search engine, details the trends appearing as summer approaches. It seems Brits are already preparing to take off, or drive off to the sun as searches for cabin luggage are up by 106%, handbags up by 91% and luggage sets up by 41%.

Durable materials are the marked preference in cabin luggage, with aluminium leading leather and nylon. Faith in trusted, quality brands is evident, with Samsonite the most popular, followed by Delsey and Hi-Tec, showing that shoppers are keen to avoid anything spoiling their weekend break. Brits are adventurous with colour however, as pink is the most sought-after followed by red then purple.

Handbag material searches reveal a taste for luxury: number one is ostrich leather, followed by snakeskin. Straw, in third place, indicates that lighter fabrics are popular again for summer. Colours are more sombre, with navy and white most popular, but orange in third place reflects the summer trend for blocks of brightness. The top brands are David Jones, Vivienne Westwood and GUESS.

Luggage sets reveal different tastes, with more economical materials such as polyester, fabric and nylon proving more popular as families try to make the most of summer despite some gloomy forecasts. Grey is only the second favourite colour though, beaten again by pink and just ahead of purple. If the size of luggage sets is an indicator of how many children still holiday with the ‘oldies’, the three-piece is the most popular, although five-piece sets are in third place.
